From Dazed Magazine...
"It turned into a more cinematic thing, for sure," says LA-based artist Eskmo of his second album, SOL, which is finally arriving on R&S offshoot Apollo five years after his Ninja Tune debut. What's been filtering into his sound is the influence of a collective of composers he's been working on live shows with in LA; the influence of wide open landscapes he's visited and recorded in Yosemite, Costa Rica, and Egypt; the influence of impersonal ideas about the universe, and of very personal ideas about love and loss.

If that sounds ambitious, that's because it is. SOL is a widescreen experience, full of diluted beats that leave acres of space for the trickle of field recordings and weaving of string sections and piano tinkering. Listen below, and read on to find out how the album that began as an attempt to conceptualize the sun as a "single drum hit" transformed into a very personal narrative.

Through morning mist
And firefly dust

Blue and Grey
Waterbird

Dust / Home
Dancing on shadows

Light breaks
Through morning mist
And firefly dust

Blue and Grey

4: Mind of War
Its good to see you mind
Ive been gone a long long time
We moved to your rhythm rhythm
Your rhythm rhythm

Peculiar Dances
This slide of emotion
A tender footstep
and subtle commotion

Shedding skin
The rough rough kind
Mind of War
Mind of war

10 days in silence
In the desert I lost my mind
Easing slow but ready
Your rhythm rhythm
Your rhythm rhythm

7 days in the jungle
Canopies of Costa Rica
A tender footstep
and subtle commotion

Shedding skin
The glorious kind

Mind of War
Mind of war

Mind of War
Mind of love

Peculiar Dances
This slide of emotion
A tender footstep
and subtle commotion

Fairweather love

Feed Fire

New life again
Hope everlasting

Young love again
Hope everylasting

My chest asks
to sing

Feed Fire
Feed Fire

9: The Sun is a Drum

The space inside the drum
The drum

10: Can't Taste
Can't Taste

Oh with time
Can't taste

Where did this come from?
Where did it go from here?

Can't Taste
Can't Stop

Oh with time
Can't taste

Where did this come from?
Where did it go from here?

And now, can it stop?

Please know that I'm...
